Wakeboard and skimboard action lure pros and beginners

Among the trade fair highlights for the board artists at boot Düsseldorf were the legendary Cable Mekka Awards. Around 500 riders and proud members of the community plus many friends met in the Cinema Filmkunstkino, to which the organizers of The Cable magazine and boot Düsseldorf had invited for the 20th awarding of the coveted trophies. Felix Georgii (Kranzegg) and Anne Freyer (Mannheim) were presented with the “Rider of the Year” awards. Eight other awards for exceptional performances and documentaries from the wakeboard world demonstrated the diversity of this growing community. At the height of the evening, Wakeboard veteran and boot presenter Clint Liddy was moved to tears. The Australian living in Frankfurt (“The Wakeboard Voice”) was honored for his lifetime achievement and said: “I never saw that coming. I am very happy that I can celebrate this matter of my heart here at boot with the entire industry.” And the industry had many reasons more to be pleased, as the Brand Manager of Liquid Force Germany put it. Karsten Krey said: “I have been at this trade fair for 40 years and can say: There was a buzzing this year! For the scene, the boot Düsseldorf is the highlight in winter.” The Pooltastic Wakeboard Contest in the flatwater pool was won by Nico von Lerchenfeld from Cologne, ahead of Pedro Caldas from Brazil and Germany’s Max Milde. Later in the week, the finest skimboard techniques and stylish moves were presented by leading European skimboarders. Semjon Szillat and Lydia Blanke won the “Battle of the boot” for their Team Skimzone Germany. As a sporty and a private couple, both showed how versatile this Sport can be for everyone.

FOUNDER
David Trewern
Founder and CEO

David Trewern grew up in the coastal town of Merimbula NSW, Australia. He learnt to surf, windsurf and sail by age 10. In 1998 David was one of the first people in Australia to Kitesurf, and in 2005 David designed a board and broke the (GPS) Kitesurfing world speed record with a top speed of 48.5 knots (500m average speed of 44.8knots).

David business career started early, and over the past 21 years David has developed three successful businesses including Australia’s leading innovation agency DT (now AKQA – part of WPP). On exit of his third business, David moved with his family to Byron Bay.

Having spent many years racing on Hydrofoil kiteboards David identified the potential for powered flight; due to the amazing efficiency of hydrofoils. Fliteboard was born.

A few years later and David is combining decades of business, design, and software experience with his love for water sports and the ocean.

Every company has a story. We love looking back at 20 years, sharing and smiling at all the serendipitous events that had to occur for Wibit to come into existence.
1994: Soccer team mates
Our co-founder, Robert, from Canada, attends his brother’s wedding in Germany and on a whim decides to try out for a German soccer team where he meets Romann. They become instant friends.
1996: 1st Euro Water Trampoline
Robert and Romann see their first water trampoline in an American water sports magazine and decide to be the first to import them into Europe.
1997: The Boot in Dusseldorf Exhibiting at the BOOT show in Dusseldorf, their one and only trampoline is stolen and their newly formed company is almost dead in the water. Despite this, the two friends keep their tails up and continue the business.
2000: The Aqua Park is born! The co-founders see the need for a commercial grade floating park and begin to design and produce their own high quality products.
2007: Playful inspiration Inspired by “LEGO”, a new interlocking and modular style of water park is conceived to reinvent the category.
2008:The evolution of waterplay Looking for a fresh and suitable image for the fun products, the company excitedly rebrands itself. The Wibit brand is born!Can you guess how we came up with our name?
2014: INFINITY configuration With the INFINITY configuration Wibit reaches a new dimension of playing on the water that allows for endless paths and never ending fun.
2015: Say it on the water™! The new WibitTAG system is the world´s first floating sign people can actually play on and provides an iconic identity to each location.
2017: Today … Wibit is the world leader in floating water parks and continues to innovate its products for both open water resorts and pools. An estimated 12 million people in over 75 countries and across 6 continents have been wibitzed by now … When will you?
