RED BULL DOUBLE OR NOTHING BRINGING THE BIGGEST COMPETITION IN WAKEBOARDING BACK TO ORLANDO

Save the date: Sept  16th

Top pro wakeboarders from around the world return to compete in Orlando on Sept. 16, free admission for all spectators at Gaston Edwards Park

Red Bull Double or Nothing powered by Mastercraft brings the top wakeboarders in the world to Orlando in a winner-take-all, best trick competition behind the legendary MasterCraft XStar S. The competition pushes the sport’s best athletes to redefine what’s possible on a wakeboard.

Parks Bonifay is the creator of Red Bull Double or Nothing and a certified legend in the sport. He’s recruited the best of the best from around the world to compete on Saturday, September 16. Every year the world’s top wakeboarder’s attempt huge, never-done-before, history-making tricks at Red Bull Double or Nothing, and this year will be no exception.

The event gets its name from the “double-up”, which is the moment when two wakes combine into one, growing more than three times the size of a usual wake. This allows the pros to get massive air, allowing for huge tricks, and risking huge crashes.

Parks, an Orlando resident, is stoked to bring the world’s best back to his hometown crowd to compete; “Red Bull Double or Nothing is the most progressive wakeboard contest to date. As a rider in the event, one of the things I’m super pumped about is having a packed shore line full of people cheering and pushing us to land a trick that’s possibly never been done before. With $10,000 on the line, who knows, we might see the first ever triple flip! Gonna be a wild day, come down to Lake Ivanhoe and join the vibe!”

For the first time in the event’s history, two of the best women in the sport will be participating in a double-up exhibition on Saturday afternoon. Meagan Ethell is a 7 time World Champion living in Orlando. Jamie Lopino is also a World Champion and former Rider of the Year. Each will showcase their world-class talent and get in on the action, going bigger than either ever have ever before and  attempting their own double-ups.

Australia’s Sam Brown won last year’s event by nailing a Switch Double Moab (double backflip with a full 360), earning him the winner-take-all $10,000 prize. Sam will be returning this year and has plans to land that first ever triple flip.  Other stars of the sport that will be vying for that prize purse include Cory Teunissen, Steel Lafferty, Shota Tezuka and Luca Kidd.  Judges include 2020 winner Guenther Oka and veteran pro Jimmy LaRiche.

Last year the event introduced two wild card spots, saved for boarders in the general public who submit a video for a chance to be selected by Parks to compete. This proved to be a massive success, with twin Argentinian brothers Ulf and Kai Distch securing those spots, and then absolutely crushing it at the competition. They will both return as invited riders this year, with two new wildcard spots open. The submission phase is open as of August 18th and will close on September 1st. Tag @parxxx on Instagram with hashtag #doubleornothingwildcard before then send in your submission!

To see Parks and company send it on Lake Ivanhoe in person, head to Gaston Edwards Park on Saturday, Sept. 16th from 9am-5pm. The day will be complete with food trucks, family-friendly games, and an open area for some of the best views of the lake to see a spectacle unlike any other in wakeboarding.

For anyone that can’t attend, all the action will be streamed live. Tune in to Send It Official’s YouTube Page on the 16th!

The world’s top female rider and breast cancer advocate, Meagan Ethell, continues mission of raising awareness at Boathouse Row with new, stunning imagery

For Meagan Ethell, the world’s top-ranked female wakeboarder, being on the water is not her only passion. October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in 2020 Meagan is taking her advocacy and mission to another level. Today, Meagan, in partnership with Red Bull, released a series of stunning imagery featuring her riding a custom wake feature in front of the iconic pink-lit Boathouse Row in Philadelphia.

Meagan, Red Bull and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation teamed up to turn Boathouse Row, a strip of 19th century homes lining Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River, pink in solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness month and build a custom feature for Meagan to ride in front. Meagan chose the Boathouse Row location after seeing the marina setting lit pink in years’ past. Rocking a custom pink-ribbon helmet, Meagan was photographed riding the feature in the nights leading up to October 1. The ride and stunning imagery will help Meagan raise awareness for breast cancer research and the hope of ultimately finding a cure.

“As a passion of mine, I’m really excited to raise awareness of breast cancer,” said Ethell, who has won six World Championships, ”I want to thank the city of Philadelphia and Boathouse Row for helping with the project.”

Meagan-ethell-breast-cancer-2jpg

Boathouse Row was the selected venue not only because of its picturesque nature, but because of the organizations that call this area home. Ethell’s ride was partly inspired by WeCanRow Philly, a community of breast cancer survivors aiming to help those affected regain their activity and energy levels. WeCanRow Philly also connects these women with others who have undergone similar experiences, and bonds them together through a healthy and exhilarating activity along Boathouse Row.

The 22-year old Orlando native has worked to raise money, awareness, and help survivors of breast cancer for years, including as a spokeswoman for Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), and teaching survivors in her hometown how to wakeboard every year. Those interested in standing by Meagan as she works to support, advocate, and eradicate this deadly disease can do so by donating to Boarding for Breast Cancer, or by joining B4BC’s 13th annual ‘Skate the Coast’ event on October 25th, and encouraging your community to skate, bike, or roll around your neighborhood for Breast Cancer Prevention. B4BC also encourages those participants to tag @b4bc and #feelinit4b4bc to continue their goal. Additionally, Meagan and B4BC will be auctioning off her helmet to raise money for the cause, with Red Bull matching the donation.

The 2020 Liquid force wakeboard collection just out , follow all the pro’s tech talk to present you all the model available for the next season !

The 2020 Rhythme presented by Guenter Oka

The Rhythm is a Park riding machine that comes in 3 new sizes for 2020, a 140, 144 and 148. The Rhythm features our durable, sintered Grind base and flex tip technology. It has a smooth concave through the center for speed and flow that feeds out the ends to a center concave slot placed between slight quad channels for superior hold. The outside edge channels give you extra hold when combined with the straighter mid-body shape. A lifted concave edge bevel keeps the board catch free. New this year is the FSC wood CNC’d core with Liquid Rail Flex Tips which livens up the feel and sensitivity on features. Add in the aggressive continuous rocker for smooth, soft landings and you have the ultimate park board.

The 2020 Eclipse presented by Daniel Grant

How do you make a top selling park board even better? You make it livelier, more durable, and now with a certified FSC wood core. The 2020 FSC wood core gives the board extra spring loaded flex and takes what was already a durable shape and makes it bullet proof. With the LF exclusive Grind Base and Liquid Rails, this is the ultimate park board for going big off kickers and pressing on rails. A few years back Daniel Grant said, “big boards are the future”. Seems that Daniel can see into the future…

More about the 2020 Eclipse

The 2020 Peak presented by Nico Von Lerchenfeld

Nico loves nature which is pretty obvious by his hand drawn graphic this year. But more than that, Nico has been a huge advocator of using Certified FSC wood in all of our wood core boards for 2020. The FSC wood core is not sustainable, but it adds durability AND a more spring loaded flex with rebound. The unique single concave hull shape, mid body channels, and a concave beveled edge allows this board to be ridden finless and still hold a solid edge. With the LF exclusive liquid rails and grind base, this board can take a beating on any feature. Adding to the already impressive flex pattern of this board, the FlexTrack system will have you more connected and in control than ever before. Be happy, ride a Peak.

The 2020 RDX Presnted By Raph Derome

The RDX features quad molded-in fins which are deep enough for extra hold when needed, but still allow for a loose, fun ride. The aggressive 3 stage rocker gives you the pop you are looking for while the single to double concave center softens the landings when you really send it. The M6 inserts are designed to partner with the new 6X binding or any 6” binding. Experience this board and see why Raph gives it his stamp of approval.

The 2020 TAO presented by Daniel Grant

The Tao was Daniels board of choice for many years… It’s now the board of choice for young phenom, Loic DesDeschaux. The Tao features a new fuller rounded scallop tail shape for 2020 and inserts to pair with your favorite 6X binding. The all new FSC wood CNC’d core creates spring loaded flex and makes the board more alive. The wood core also adds durability and life creating an almost indestructible board that is perfect for the hard core park rider.

The 2020 Asym Noodle Presented By Felix Georgii

Building upon the design of the Noodle, the 2020 Aysm Noodle features an all new outline with a longer effective edge on the toe side to generate more speed and a shorter deeper parabolic edge on the heal side for sharper, snappier hacks. A new flex tip pattern compliments the outline to give the board a unique flex pattern to have your board twisting and turning into new dimensions in your rail lines. To finish it out, the single concave provides a clean efficient bottom shape to provide easy glide and consistent response to get you where you need go and where you wish you could be…

The 2020 Raph presented by Raph Derome

We took the most unique board in our line and made it even more unique by adding 2D Flex Zones in the tips. This allows the board to bend around rails for ultimate control. The RAPH shape is the smoothest, loosest board for hitting features as it doesn’t have channels on the tip or tail. The Raph features an FSC wood CNC’d core, which gives the board more spring loaded flex and rebound than the standard edition, creating a livelier ride. Add in the Flex Track for unmatched connection, the LF Exclusive Grind base and Liquid Rails for proven durability and you have the most playful board for park riding.

The 2020 Butterstick Pro presented by Felix Georgii

Like all our wood core boards, this board features and FSC wood profiled core that makes the board feel alive under foot. Along with the super flexy diamond tip shape, the unique 3D tip Flex Zone makes this board great for nose and tail presses. The Butterstick Pro features a progressive 3 Stage Rocker, triax glass lay-up, variable radius single concave hull and beveled Liquid Rails. Add in the new Grip Print stomp pad for one-footers and you have one of the most unique boards in the line for one of the most unique athletes on our team..

The 2020 Metric presented by MEAGAN ETHELL

Meagan Ethell is equally as talented in the park as she is behind the boat and needed a board to complement her skills. New this year is the FSC CNC’d all wood core giving the board a lively feel. A progressive, three stage rocker profile allows for seamless transitions and the added pop needed to explode off kickers and hit the biggest rails. If you’re working hard to progress this summer and take things to next level then the Metric is the perfect board for you to get out there and push yourself!.

The 2020 M.E presented by MEAGAN ETHELL

The M.E. is all new for 2020 and based off the RDX shape. It features quad molded-in fins which are deep enough for extra hold when needed, but still allow for a loose, fun ride. The 2020 Classic presented by Shawn Watson

This is the board that every pro on our team has ridden and maybe still would if they didn’t have a pro model with characteristics from this timeless shape. The mellow 3 stage rocker helps you go big off the wake while the spiral V mid-section displaces the water for soft landings. The lifted variable edge and quad vented channels at the tips give you optimal response and control. Ride with the center fin for extra control and bite or remove it for a fun, playful feel. Built and designed for fun on the water, this board has a performance feel yet has forgiveness off the wake for learning new tricks and taking your ability to the next level.

Anna knows exactly what she wants in a board… After testing multiple protos and working with the design team, Anna’s first Pro Model, the Virago, was formed. This board features an FSC Certified Full wood profiled split core for the ultimate feel on obstacles and the water. It has a full rounded thumbtail shape and a triple concave with V tip channels and a center venturi slot that allows the board to be smooth on features but still hold a solid edge while carving. Add in the triax glass layup, beveled liquid rails side walls, and the LF sintered grind base and you have a board that can take a beating. Every event behind 6X Wakeboard Boat of the Year, the Super Air Nautique G23 brings out the very best in wakeboarding’s top athletes across all divisions. The 2019 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships showcased an inspiring spectacle of athletic ability with wake’s greatest putting down peak performances to lay claim to the 2019 National Title.

“I’d like to congratulate all of the riders that took home National titles this weekend behind the award-winning G23,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “The fans here in Washington witnessed some incredible performances, as the Nationals brought out the best from the top pro and amateur wakeboarders once again.”

Wakeboarding’s top athletes

Setting the pace for the entire day, the Pro Wakeskate division revved things up with Reed Hansen (USA) stomping out a switch H/S F/S 360 and a T/S B/S 180 to take the win with a score of 87.00. James Balzer (CDN) landed a T/S F/S indy shuv to grab the second spot scoring 80.67, followed by Brian Grubb (USA) in third with a score of 68.67.

Fynn Bullock-Womble (USA) rose to the top of the Jr. Pro Men division this season, sealing it off with his very first National title with a final score of 94.33. Womble had a huge run behind the Super Air Nautique G23 today opening his run with a stylish stalefish tantrum to blind and going on to land a roast beef roll to blind and an indy bat wing to blind, leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind he just claimed the National title. Josh Swift (AUS) gave it everything he had putting down another ridiculous performance with a whirly 540 and a wrapped H/S B/S 540 to score 73.00. Kevin Duffy (USA) placed third throwing a switch nose grab crow mobe for a final score of 68.33.

Zahra Kell dominating

Nautique Team athlete Zahra Kell (AUS) stole the show of the Pro Women’s division, taking her first National title scoring 92.00 points. She had an incredible run throwing down a dum dum and tantrum to blind. Meagan Ethell (USA) joined the podium in second place throwing a big T/S nose grab F/S 540 and a roll to blind for a score of 88.33, followed by Jamie Lopina in third with a final score of 83.00.

“I’m so excited to win my very first National title and it is just so cool to be on the podium with all of the incredible girls of our sport. Huge thanks to Nautique and everyone who put this event on this weekend!” said Zahra Kell.

Rockstar Energy and Ronix Wakeboards rider Nic Rapa (AUS) came out on a top with an epic performance behind the legendary Super Air Nautique G23. Rapa earned his winning score of 97.33 with a double T/S back roll to take him over the edge along with a super stylish blind pete rose and a nose grab T/S 900 to officially lock in his National title. In second, Harley Clifford (AUS) was biting at Rapa’s heels with two incredible passes that included a nose grab back mobe 540 and a melan T/S 900 scoring 93.67. Tyler Higham (USA) rounded out the podium with a double grabbed T/S B/S 540 for a third-place finishing score of 91.67.

“I’m so stoked to win the 2019 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships ! I’ve never won a 4-star event before or a Nationals, so I’m super pumped to end the weekend like this. To make a final in today’s world is absolutely unreal and on top of it I had one of my best runs today which makes it that much more special,” commented Nic Rapa.

The 2019 Wakefest was hosting last week-end in Tenessee ! The half wakeboarding event half lake party has grown in size every year since its start in 2005. The best boat wakeboarders in the world were there, including Meagan Ethell, Parks Bonifay, Brian Grubb, Guenther Oka or Cory Teunissen. These world class athletes shared a houseboat, competed and interacted with fans all weekend long, even teaching some novices how to wakeboard behind their own personal boats between competitions. Guenther Oka took the win for the 50 000$ and Meagan Ethell won the Pro Women… here are their words !

Winners interviews

Guenther Oka

How do you feel after winning Wakefest’s 50k Shotoout?

It’s unreal. With this being my first professional boat win, it feels so crazy to have done it in this fashion. Winning the biggest prize purse on boat this year means so much and gives me tons of fuel to keep on pushing.

What made your run better than the others ?

I’m not sure considering I didn’t get to see half of the other boys ride haha. But I stood up all 4 tricks I had in mind and put down the grabs I was looking for as well.

What do you think of the public here at Wakefest ? Are you coming back next year ?

Without a doubt. This was the equivalent to the super bowl of boat wakeboarding. Literally riding through the arena of boats and people made the contest so exciting. Everyone, including the fans, put their heart and soul into coming out and cheering us on.

guenther-oka-wakefest-2019

What is the next stop for you and what are your goals for the next of the 2019 season ?

I’m off to Washington for boat nationals and then right off to Portugal for the Tomar Pro. The year is far from over but I’m happy to keep the party going and end it on a high note.

Have you got a video project ? With other riders ?

Always working on something! I don’t want to give anything away but it’ll be going back to what I do best and working with my homie Taylor Hanley.

Can you talk a bit about “Passing the Handle?”

For sure. Pass the Handle is an amazing day for the entire wakeboard community. It encourages pros and amateurs alike to go out and spread the sport of wakeboarding. We dedicate that day to go and get a first timer up on board and show them the love we all have seen for wake. It is a global movement that keeps the sport fresh and spreads it far and wide.

Anything else to add?

I want to give a massive shoutout to the crew at TNT watersports in Tennessee for hosting this insane event. They pull it together every year and it something that will keep this sport going for years to come. Also Red Bull, O’Neill, and Liquid Force Wake for their continued support.

Meagan Ethell

How do you feel after winning Wakefest?

– Overall, my Wake Fest weekend was one to remember. Winning the contest was a nice bonus on top of the good times I had with everyone there. Also, being able to showcase our sport in front of such a large audience was one to remember.

What made your run better than the others?

– The conditions at Wakefest were challenging, and all the girls threw down despite those factors. I think what put me in advantage was being able to stay strong through it all. I was able to lace up some technical and stylish tricks, and I think that helped put the top spot in my favor.

What do you think of the public here at Wake Fest? Are you coming back next year?

The number of people that were at this event was mind-blowing. Depending on my schedule for next were, I would definitely like to come back. Hopefully, we can push for a better prize purse so more females want to attend the event. Also, it would be insane to create a female Shoot Out to give the pro women that sort of opportunity.

pro-women-winners-wakefest-2019

What is the next stop for you and what are your goals for the next of the 2019 season?

On Thursday, I leave to Seattle for Nationals. It’s a pretty busy season at the moment with constantly being on the move. For the rest of the season, I’m wanting to focus on my riding and pushing myself to do harder/different tricks.

Have you got a video project? With other riders?

I have not started creating a video project because I’ve been focused on my riding and progressing it, but that is something that I want to do in the near future. I’m hoping to do a Red Bull project soon and with that, I would release a video.

Can you talk a bit about “Passing the Handle?”

– Our Pass the Handle Day in TN was great. We got a few people out on the water and gave them a really great experience. It is always pretty rewarding to pass the handle to someone new and expose them to our amazing sport.

Watts Bar Lake played host to an epic battle for the banjos at the Malibu Factory Smoky Mountain Pro presented by Rockstar Energy.

Epic performances

Friday’s quarterfinal rounds were on fire behind the Malibu M235 powered by the latest Malibu Monsoon Engine, bringing a certain intensity to the starting dock on Saturday morning. Fans filled in on the water and lined the shores of Malibu’s Loudon, TN facility as the riders hit the water to deliver the pinnacle of wakeboard competition to the hometown crowd. The ladies delivered performances of epic proportion, looking to see who would land on top of the podium at the very first WWA WBWS equal podium prize money event.

In the Pro Women’s division, Rockstar Energy athlete Zahra Kell (AUS) made history taking home the largest amount of prize money a female wakeboarder has ever received. Kell stomped two stand up passes that included a whirly bird in her first pass, to then officially lock up the top spot with one of the cleanest dum dums we’ve ever seen for a final score of 90.00. The second place spot went to Dallas Friday (USA) who looked so comfortable behind the Malibu M235 throwing a bat wing and T/S Off-Axis 540 for a score of 85.00. Rounding out the podium in third, Meagan Ethell (USA) threw down a super clean wrapped mute F/S 540 for 82.67 points.

Largest amount of prize money

“I’m super stoked that all of my hard work paid off this weekend, I was really happy with my run so to take the win felt that much better. It’s so awesome to be the first woman to grab the equal prize money with a first place finish! This has been such a great event, thanks to everyone who helped put it on!” said Rockstar athlete Zahra Kell.

The Pro Men’s division saw quite the shake-up with a series of events dictating a crazy final round. Another Rockstar Energy athlete took the win today with Tony Iacconi (AUS) coming out on top for his first-ever Malibu Factory Pro win. Iacconi earned a 95.67 score starting off his run with an Indy Moby Dick to lay down a roast beef crow mobe 540 and a tail grab front blind mobe in his second pass. Harley Clifford (AUS) came out charging in the final round opening his run with his signature tail grab KGB to the flats for a second place score of 91.67. Malibu athlete, Massi Piffaretti (ITA) showed up displaying his unique Italian style with every trick, throwing his seatbelt to late tail grab tantrum to blind for a third place score of 90.00.

“It’s been nearly three years since I’ve won a Wakeboard World Series stop so I’m super happy to have taken the win today! Being third off the dock and watching all the boys throw down, I knew had my work cut for me and needed to give it my all out there. I’m just so stoked and I couldn’t be happier right now,” commented Rockstar athlete Tony Iacconi.
