Hip-Notics Cable Park

“Located on the southern coast of Turkey is the beautiful city of Antalya, where summers last for eight months and even winter days are mild and pleasant. Just 30 minutes from Antalya’s International Airport is Hip-Notics Cable Ski Park. Finally, the possibility of year-round riding, so close to Europe’s major cities! Hip-Notics consists of three man-made lakes, continually fed by cool mountain run-off water on its way from the Taurus Mountains to the Mediterranean Sea. The lakes are approximately 170 cm deep; shallow enough to keep the water pretty warm most of the year. Located at the foothills and on the main Antalya-Manavgat road, Hip-Notics is as convenient as it is beautiful. Hip-Notics’ lakes cover approximately 90,000 square meters of the property’s total land area of about 200,000 square meters.

Shredding the Floating Markets

Dominik fulfills a long-held dream: to cruise through the narrow waterways of Bangkok with a wakeboard and winch, finding and shredding the best spots on a mission guaranteed to produce spectacular shots. Some highlights include the runs through the famous Ancient City and the bustling Floating Markets, which, thanks to an enormous tidal range of up to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) and lively boat traffic, make for a true winching challenge. “Seaching Bangkok is one of the best experiences of the past few years for me”, Dominik reports from his adventure in Thailand. “It’s a really great feeling to just go wild creatively, and get to ride spots where you know, without a doubt, that no one has ever touched them with a wakeboard before you.” Just take a look:

Dominik Gührs

Dominik Gührs is a German wakeboarding pro who overcame serious injury at 13 years old to become one of the most decorated wakeboarders in his country, and a World Champion to boot. Despite having many accolades under his belt – including numerous German Championship titles, European Championship titles, a second place at the World Championships in the WWA, as well as a People’s Choice Ride of the Year award – Dominik always stays true to his values, putting his friends, family and fans first. 

His’s career hasn’t always been a story of success and plain sailing; his first and worst injury was a dangerous basal skull fracture, which he suffered at the age of 13. But the young German was keen to continue, and went on to win the German Wakeboarding Championship three times (2004, 2005, 2007). In 2006, Dominik ranked second in the German and European Championships and took home a bronze medal from the World Championships in the Juniors category. The story of success continued in 2007 when he took home the prestigious golden crown from the European Cable Wakeboarding Championships (Juniors). With a victory at the World Championships in 2011, followed by the WWA World Tour title in 2012, Dominik continues to strive for domination on the water and consistently racks up event wins and podium finishes to this.

Dominik Gührs est un professionnel allemand de wakeboard qui a surmonté de graves blessures à 13 ans pour devenir l’un des wakeboarders les plus décorés de son pays, et un champion du monde en plus. Bien qu’il ait de nombreuses récompenses à son actif – y compris de nombreux titres de champion d’Allemagne, de champion d’Europe, une deuxième place aux Championnats du monde du WWA, Dominik reste toujours fidèle à ses valeurs, mettant ses amis, sa famille et ses fans en premier.

Sa carrière n’a pas toujours été marquée par le succès et la simplicité ; sa première et pire blessure a été une dangereuse fracture du crâne, qu’il a subie à l’âge de 13 ans, mais le jeune Allemand a tenu à continuer et a remporté le championnat allemand de wakeboard à trois reprises (2004, 2005, 2007). En 2006, Dominik s’est classé deuxième aux Championnats d’Allemagne et d’Europe et a remporté une médaille de bronze aux Championnats du monde dans la catégorie Juniors. L’histoire du succès s’est poursuivie en 2007 lorsqu’il a remporté la prestigieuse couronne des Championnats d’Europe de Cable Wakeboarding (Juniors). Wake 2el

On June 15, a huge crowd of wakeboarding enthusiasts gathered at 313 Cable Park on the seaside of Lithuania. Globally acclaimed athletes from fifteen countries came together for the Red Bull Wake2el. The event, carried out for the fifth year in a row, has quickly grown from a local to an international level, attracting the attention of such stars like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) and Liam Peacock (UK).

Red Bull Wake2el stands out from other major world competitions with its format. Lots are drawn the day before the event splitting the participants in pairs. Pairs then battle against each other. Winners pass to the next stage. And so on until only one remains. The duel format makes the race very intense and, at the same time, unpredictable, because the starting pairs can determine the course of the race.

Champions

The event saw a total 12 female athletes. After a couple of hours of impressive tricks, Marry Rougier from France proved to be the best-performing female athlete. Lisa Baloo from Russia came second, and Mari-Liis Simon from Estonia came third.

The male group was twice larger with 24 athletes. It was possible to see the stars of the waking world like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) or Liam Peacock (UK). After 21 duels and one final three-stage battle, Liam Peacock from the United Kingdom won the 2019 male category. German Christopher Klein came second, while Albin Randow from Sweden came third.

Bienvenu au freestyle wakepark

Crée seulement avec des containers, un bateau et une grue, ce wakepark à 360° est le premier du genre.

Le duo allemand Dominik Gührs et Felix Georgi, et l’autrichien Dominik Hernler ont eu l’idée de créer le projet après avoir vu un rider se faire mettre à l’épreuve dans un clip YouTube. Le trio a été traîné avec une grue flottante soudée à une plate-forme plutôt qu’à un câble.

La construction en vidéo

Voici la vidéo qui récapitule le processus de construction de ce wakepark d’un genre nouveau. Grâce à l’aide de cinq plongeurs industriels, les conteneurs d’expédition – convertis à l’aide de dispositifs flottants – ont été positionnés à l’aide de 28 ancres pesant chacune 800 kg. Au total, le processus de construction à lui seul a nécessité 10 jours de travail.

“Il n’y a jamais eu d’obstacle en lévitation dans le wakeboard, c’est pourquoi aucun d’entre nous n’a jamais ridé comme ça, explique Gührs, et le wakeboard sur une grue est incroyablement cool. Le combiner avec des obstacles à conteneurs dans l’eau et dans l’air, c’est de la folie et quelque chose de complètement nouveau dans notre sport.”

L’histoire

Nous sommes donc arrivés à Thaï Wake Park où nous avons rejoint Enzo Asseraf qui m’a vraiment pas mal aidé et conseillé, comme pour le mob 5 et le to 5.4 back dans le Wall. Il y avait aussi pas mal de pro-riders sur place comme Daniel Grant, Yannik Paton, Wesley Mark Jacobsen, Dominik Gührs, Blake Bishop… que j’ai pu observer rider et qui m’ont permis de trouver des variantes sur les modules.
C’est vrai, on a pas mal de possibilités pour composer des lignes toujours plus créatives. Ca m’a beaucoup aidé dans ma progression ! En plus de se retrouver avec Enzo Asseraf et Clément Nadal, on a pu se lancer des défis sur des modules, se conseiller………………

Conditions were once again ideal for the final day of the 48th IWWF World Cup stop, the IWWF Jordan Ayla Cable Wakeboard World Cup, at the Ayla Cable Wake Park in Aqaba, Jordan.
16 Open Men in the semi-finals were split into two groups to compete for the eight places in the final with the best four from each group advancing.

Miles Toller (GER), Pedro Caldas (BRA) and Sam de Haan (NED) improved on their first-round scores to secure their positions in the final whilst Liam Peacock (GBR) just fell short with his improved second pass losing out to Sebastian Dunn (AUS).
In the second semi-final, first off the dock Ariano Blanik (GER) set the benchmark with a Pete Rose 540 and a score of 70.00. Koki Toyoshima (JPN), Hamid Khodsiani (IRN) and Riccardo de Tollis (ITA) all improved on their first-round scores but not sufficiently to threaten the leaders. IWWF Junior World Champion in Mexico, Oliver Orban (HUN), Ariano Blaniik (GER) Dominik Gohrs (GER) and Louis Mistaudy (FRA) all advanced into the finals.

First rider in the Women’s Open final was Courtney Angus (AUS) who wowed the crowd with a clear pass including a 360 Transfer off the fun box. Only Julia Rick (GER), last of the dock in the final, was able to top Courtney’s score with a Backside 540 off the kicker, 90210 and 313 and, despite failing to complete her last trick, took the lead.
Only Steph Caller (GBR) was unable to improve on her first-round score, but it was Maxine Sapulette (NED), Courtney Angus (AUS) and Julia Rick (GER) who finished on the podium in 3rd, 2nd and 1st place respectively.

In the men’s finals Dominik Guhrs (GER) had a great ride including a Backside 720, a big air KGB, and a 315. Initially only Pedro Caldas (BRA) failed to improve on his first-round score. Louis Mistaudy (FRA) with a Toeside Blind Judge, a big air KGB and finishing with a Backside 720 off the kicker jumped into 2nd place. Ariano Blanik (GER) then blew everyone away opening up his run with a toeside backside 900 and landing a Double Half Cab Roll to take the lead. By then lying in 2nd place, and last off the dock, Dominik Guhrs (GER) fell early conceding victory to his fellow countryman Ariano Blanik.

The event was honoured to be attended by his Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee who presented the trophies and cheques to the winners:

3rd – Maxine Sapulette (NED)

Men’s Open
1st – Ariano Blanik (GER)
2nd – Dominik Guhrs (GER)
3rd – Louis Mistaudy (FRA)

IWWF President, Jose Antonio Perez Priego, thanked his Royal Highness, the hosts Ayla, the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), the sponsors, the volunteers and riders and officials for making the event such a great success. At the same time a letter of co-operation was signed between Ayla, the Jordan Olympic Committee and IWWF for the development of towed water sports in Jordan.
