2022 SINGHA IWWF WORLDS Championships held in ESC Thai Wakepark ,Thailand

The 2022 SINGHA IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championshipshas kicked off at ESC Thai Wake Park in Rangsit, Thailand. Over 250 riders from 30 countries have arrived in Thailand to compete for IWWF individual and team titles.

The 2022 SINGHA IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships is being organised by the Thailand Extreme Sports Association (TESA) and was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 but has been postponed to 2022 due to the global pandemic.

DAY 1 :

In Women’s Open Wakeskate, defending champion Zuzana Vrablova from Slovakia will be looking to defend her title against the 2022 IWWF European Champion Telma Cester from Spain. 2019 South East Asian Games gold medalist Susan Larson from the Philippines will be looking to advance to the final of her first IWWF World titled event.

There will be a new Open Men’s Wakeskate Champion this time around with defending champion, Clement De Premonville from France missing out through injury. Maxim Giry from France, current IWWF European Open Men’s Champion, Mauri Marassi from Italy and Dan Milstein from Israel are considered contenders to stand on the podium.
In Open ladies, Germany’s Julia Rick will be looking to reclaim the crown that she won back in 2018 but will receive some competition from Claudia Pagnini (pictured above) who placed 1st at the IWWF 2-Tower World Cup stop held recently in Aarhus, Denmark and Aurélie Godet from France who won the 2021 IWWF European Championships. Patcharaporn Juunguluam from Thailand who won the 2019 South East Asian Games women’s gold medal will be hoping to advance to the final.
3-time IWWF Open Men’s Champion Lior Sofer from Israel will not be able to defend his title, also missing out through injury, which leaves the door open to creating an epic battle at ESC Thai Wake Park. Raphael Trinidad from the Philippines who won the silver medal at the previous IWWF Worlds, Italy’s Riccardo de Tollis who just recently won the 2022 IWWF European Championships Open Men’s Gold Medal, Max Milde from Germany and Kieran Owens from Great Britain are also expected to be in contention. Thailand’s Sanya Phonthip, the 2019 South East Asian Games men’s gold medalist, will be doing what he can to join the big boys in the final.
In addition to the Open category, the 2022 SINGHA IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships will include categories for different age groups – wakeboard (Under 14, Under 18, 30 & Over and 40 & Over), Wakeskate (Under 18 & Open) and a mixed Seated (adaptive) category. A team score based on the placement of each country’s team riders will be used to determine the Team Overall winner.  Defending Team Overall Champions, France, will be looking to reclaim the gold medal with Germany and Italy both considered being in contention to win the team overall title having placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in 2018.
The 2022 SINGHA IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships will be live-streamed daily, starting 1st to 6th November 2022, on IWWF’s YouTube Channel.

ESC Thai Wake Park is a collaboration project between ESC, a real estate developer, and Thai Wake Park (TWP). It features a main anti-clockwise 5-tower Rixen cableway, a Rixen Little Bro training cableway, more than 12 full plastic features and night riding. The park is located in the Rangsit area, only 40 minutes from the centre of Bangkok, 30-minutes from Don Mueang International Airport and 60 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The IWWF Executive Board has approved a bid from the Thailand Extreme Sports Association (TESA) to host the 2020 IWWF World Cable Wakeboard Championships at ESC Thai Wake Park from 14th to 20th September 2020.

“We are very excited to host the 2020 IWWF World Cable Wakeboard Championships at ESC Thai Wake Park and welcome the best cable riders from all over the world to visit Thailand next September”, said TESA President, Mr. Piti Bhirombhakdi. “I am very pleased that Thailand, one of the most popular destinations for cable wakeboarding, will host its first IWWF world-titled event and believe TESA will be excellent hosts for the world’s best cable riders”, said IWWF President, Jose Antonio Perez Priego.
 
ESC Thai Wake Park is a collaboration project between ESC, a real estate developer, and Thai Wake Park (TWP). It features a main anti-clockwise 5-tower Rixen cableway, a Rixen Little Bro training cableway, more than 12 full plastic features and night riding. The park is located in the Rangsit area, only 40 minutes from the centre of Bangkok, 30-minutes from Don Mueang International Airport and 60 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Construction on ESC Thai Wake Park began in September 2018. It had its soft opening at the end of August 2019 and is now fully-operational with riders hitting the water daily. 
 
In addition to a cable wake park, with its 800,000 square metres of land, the project will consist of a golf driving range, onsite accommodation, a convention room (estimated completion February 2020), a variety of restaurants (estimated completion May 2020) and a pre-existing shooting studio. The next phase of the project will consist of a mini-skate park, fitness centre and a football field (estimated completion 2021). Nattorn​ Ratanachai, Marketing Director of ESC Thai Wake Park said “It’s an honor to host 2020 IWWF World Cable Wakeboard Championship. We are very excited and will do our best to ensure everyone enjoys the event”.
