The Munich Mash 2024 is Back

Are you ready yet?

MUNICH MASH 2024 : On Friday, 2 August, it’s ‘doors open’ in the Olympic Park! The MASH Fest opens at 1.00 pm with all its offers.
On the sporting side, the Red Bull Pool Drop skateboard contest qualification is on the programme from 4.00 pm and the wakeboarding team contest from 7.00 pm. There will also be a last chance for all ambitious dancers to become part of MASH from 4.00 pm. This is when they can register for the preselection for the street dance contest. The preselection itself starts at 6.00 pm.
In the evening, the Crux Pistols will provide the right groove: the Munich DJ greats and former operators of the former hip-hop cult club Crux in the Zerwirkgewölbe, Dan Gerous and Not F.X., will be playing at MASH Square from 9.00 pm.

The home of action sports: 10 years of MASH

True to the motto “coming home”, the Munich Action Sports Heroes will be returning to the Olympic Park from 2 to 4 August, transforming the venue once again into a world of high-class sports and cultural diversity.

10 years ago – in 2014 – MASH celebrated its premiere. Since then, the action sports festival has become an unmissable event in the Olympic Park. All Munich locals and action sports fans should mark this year’s dates in their calendars, as the 2024 edition will again feature spectacular contests in BMX, skateboarding, wakeboarding, and street dance, as well as the revamped MASH Fest, which for the first time will see Germany’s best 3×3 basketball players competing for the national cup.

“We proudly look back on 10 years of  Munich MASH 2024 and are very much looking forward to this year’s edition at the beginning of August. It is in the DNA of this successful Olympic Park event to offer something new and surprising every time, to feature elite sports and to showcase the action sports lifestyle in a unique way. Over the past decade, MASH has developed into a highlight in the international event calendar that is highly regarded by the athletes and loved by the audience. It will be the same again in 2024,” says Olympic Park Director Marion Schöne, adding, “The fact that we have been able to develop and establish this event in such a way is in no small part down to the support of the City of Munich and many strong partners, whom I would like to express my thanks to.” Munich’s Sports Mayor Verena Dietl says: “Action sports are very close to my heart, and as the state capital we support these sports in many ways. Considering what an event highlight MASH has become over the last 10 years and how well received the event is, especially among the younger generation, any support has been worthwhile. I’m greatly looking forward to this year’s edition and three days full of excitement and enthusiasm.”

A record 92,000 visitors flocked to the park last year and were inspired by the exceptional atmosphere. The sporting action picks up seamlessly in August 2024 – the public can get in the spirit for these four contests:

Skateboarding is the bedrock in the MASH context. International athletes have been inspiring audiences with their skills since 2015. This year, they will provide that outdoor pool feeling. Red Bull Pool Drop brings the most talented and creative international skateboarders from the street and bowl disciplines to Munich. The name says it all: The athletes are allowed to present their skateboard performance on a brand-new swimming pool-style set-up on the Olympic Lake. Familiar pool elements will turn the swimmers’ paradise into a skateboard paradise. International world elite will meet local heroes.

Athletes will experience a revival in the BMX contest. Just like in 2017, they will move their contest to Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz and show off their skills on the spine ramp, surrounded by crowds of spectators who could hardly be any closer to the action. The spine ramp is the most dynamic and one of the most prestigious events in BMX freestyle. Those who excel here have the best prerequisites for BMX freestyle park – the discipline that will be contested at the Olympics for a second time this year in Paris. With an area of 250 square meters and a height of up to four meters, it is the perfect “playground” for the 12 BMX stars competing in Munich.

Wakeboarding has been part of the MASH program since 2016 and once again promises plenty of action on a spectacular set-up on the Olympic Lake. In addition to the individual women’s and men’s events, there will once again be a team contest. Julia Rick, “newcomer” Nils Ritzmann, Nico von Lerchenfeld (all three from Germany) and last year’s winners Pedro Caldas (BRA) and Lisa Baloo (ISR) are among those who have already registered for this year’s contest.

The street dance contest at the Theatron will be returning for a second stint. The dancers made their official competition debut in 2023, dancing their way into visitors’ hearts and proving that street dance and MASH are a match made in heaven. Two events are also on the agenda this year: International Breaking 2vs2 Mixed and International All Style Mixed 7-to-smoke. Both categories will be contested by invited international top dancers as well as performers qualifying via pre-selection.

From the very beginning, MASH has been a top-class, international sporting event, but not just that. The secret of its success has always been the combination of thrilling action sports and a complementary program highlighting the lifestyle and culture of the scene. For its 10th anniversary, things will be no different – and even better: themed “coming home”, the revamped MASH Fest will embrace the visitors with plenty of joie de vivre. A casual chill-out area is perfect for lingering and relaxing, while a variety of activities such as skateboarding, dance and graffiti workshops promise an unforgettable experience. From tasty treats and music to artistic performances, there will be something to tickle all the senses. The ING 3×3 Champions Trophy, the German Cup in 3×3 basketball, has been added to the program as a new side event this year, and the legendary after-party on Saturday evening is not to be missed either. The MASH Fest simply provides the perfect setting for guests to come together, get creative, relax, and take in all the action in one place.

With multiple overall titles on the line, today’s competition was filled with amazing moments including Nautique athlete Cory Teunissen snagging his second World title.  In the afternoon the crowds of the Mayan Water Complex made their way back to the cable to watch the final rounds of the 2019 Nautique WWA Wake Park World Championships presented by Rockstar Energy and to properly close out the 30 Years of Wake celebration, applauding all things wake.

Last year, we had covered the wake2el event in 2018 . Last weekend the event was hosted once more for 2019 season.

Wake 2el

On June 15, a huge crowd of wakeboarding enthusiasts gathered at 313 Cable Park on the seaside of Lithuania. Globally acclaimed athletes from fifteen countries came together for the Red Bull Wake2el. The event, carried out for the fifth year in a row, has quickly grown from a local to an international level, attracting the attention of such stars like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) and Liam Peacock (UK).

Red Bull Wake2el stands out from other major world competitions with its format. Lots are drawn the day before the event splitting the participants in pairs. Pairs then battle against each other. Winners pass to the next stage. And so on until only one remains. The duel format makes the race very intense and, at the same time, unpredictable, because the starting pairs can determine the course of the race.

Champions

The event saw a total 12 female athletes. After a couple of hours of impressive tricks, Marry Rougier from France proved to be the best-performing female athlete. Lisa Baloo from Russia came second, and Mari-Liis Simon from Estonia came third.

The male group was twice larger with 24 athletes. It was possible to see the stars of the waking world like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) or Liam Peacock (UK). After 21 duels and one final three-stage battle, Liam Peacock from the United Kingdom won the 2019 male category. German Christopher Klein came second, while Albin Randow from Sweden came third.
