WWA European Wakesurf Championships 2025 Head to Spain’s Botaski

The World Wake Association (WWA) and Nautique Boats are thrilled to announce the return of the European Wakesurf Championships in 2025, this time at a brand-new venue in Spain. Riders, fans, and watersports enthusiasts are invited to Botaski, just outside Madrid, on July 26–27, 2025, for what promises to be the most electrifying European wakesurf showdown yet.

A New Venue, A Bold Vision

Botaski, Spain’s premier wakesports destination, will make its debut as host of the European Championships. With world-class wave conditions and state-of-the-art facilities, this venue is set to redefine the competitive experience.

Where It Fits in the 2025 Series

This championship marks the third stop of the five-event 2025 Nautique Wakesurf Series, sandwiched between international competitions in Japan and the USA:

Stop #2: May 16–18 – Japan Wakesurf Open (Lake Biwa)
Stop #3: July 26–27 – European Wakesurf Championships (Botaski, Spain)
Stop #4: July 30–August 3 – USA National Wakesurf Championships (Colorado)
Stop #5: August 21–24 – Nautique Masters Wakesurf Championships (Georgia)

Athletes earn series points based on their placements, with the option to drop their lowest score across all five stops—making every performance count on the road to the Masters.

The event to serve as an official qualifier for the 2025 Nautique Masters Wakesurf Championships presented by GM Marine!

The World Wake Association (WWA) and Dubai Creek Resort are thrilled to announce that Viya Marine, a leading provider of marine services & experiences, has generously added to the prize purse for the Pro Men and Pro Women’s divisions at the upcoming Wakesurf Championships – Dubai Creek Edition. This exciting event will take place during the Dubai Creek Pre-Owned Boat Show on November 2nd and 3rd, 2024.

Thanks to Viya Marine’s contribution, the total prize purse for the Pro Men and Pro Women’s divisions now stands at $20,000 USD. This boost to the prize money is sure to attract top wakesurfing talent from around the globe, promising an intense and captivating competition.

About Dubai Creek Marina: A gracious marina in a unique location – Dubai Creek Marina, incorporating a boat charter operation, chandlery, fully equipped workshop and a boat repair yard, is the first Marina in Dubai to be ISO Certified and is capable of berthing 121 vessels of varying lengths to a maximum of 165 feet, with electricity and water provided for each mooring.Alongside the berths is the chandlery; well-stocked with the latest fishing tackle, bait, marine maintenance supplies and hardware, offering a special order service on request. WWA wakesurf Championship held in DUBAI in 2023 !

WWA Wakesurf Championships :The World Wake Association (WWA) along with Dubai Creek Resort is thrilled to announce an exciting new wakesurf event: the Wakesurf Championships – Dubai Creek Edition, November 4th and 5th. This event will take place during the Dubai Creek Pre-Owned Boat Show and will offer a weekend of nonstop action in Dubai Creek Marina. Mark your calendars for an action-packed weekend November 4th and 5th, 2023, as we bring you the ultimate wakesurfing showdown in the heart of Dubai.

This event will offer both skim and surf style divisions across all ages for both amateur and professional riders. There are no qualification requirements and all are welcome to register to attend.

In addition to the wakesurf action on the water, the pre-opened boat show will also feature Brewfest, which is a fun festival within the show where guest are invited to come dine, play games and enjoy views over the creek to water the wakesurf action on the water.

What Do We Understand by Wake Boarding?

Wake boarding is a type or kind of watersports enjoyed by thousands of people all across the globe. As the name suggests, the latter is an activity conducted or performed on waterbodies. Thus, the game or sport remains open to interested participants in areas with ample water. It can consist of lakes, rivers, places with accessible water bodies, and even beaches.

In wake boarding, the rider has to stand on a particular surface or plank named the wake board. It comes with bindings where the participant can bind their feet to avoid falling off in the water. The board, secured with a rope or cable system, gets towed by a motorboat, generally called the wake boat. It helps create waves behind the vessel that facilitate and favor the riders to perform various stunts and aerial maneuvers.

Overall, wake boarding combines various sports. It consists of snowboarding, surfing, and water skiing. It gets done primarily for the fun and excitement of the activity. In addition to that, several places organize competitions and events to set a spirited and driven attitude among the participants. Thus, in conventional cases and scenarios, the wake boat and gear can get personalized and customized to the rider’s preferences and requirements.

How Did Wake Boarding Come into Fame as a Watersports?

The rise of wake boards started in the early 20th century when people began using motorized boats for various recreational purposes. It included sports like water skiing and fishing. At that time, the riders used wooden planks instead of appropriate ski gears and a rope to pull the board with the help of a motorboat. It led to water skiing becoming popular among enthusiasts. Furthermore, it resulted in its first official tournament getting organized in 1949.

As water skiing gained fame, the demand for distinct motorboats for the sport increased. They had to get designed uniquely for the game. Initially, generalized or slightly modified versions of the vessels existed. However, with the increase in the events’ competitiveness, boats with powerful engines and V-shaped hulls started getting manufactured. It provided more stability and speed for water skiing.

Wakeboarding came into existence a little later, with its roots in three different sports. Its traces go back to the 1980s when some water skiers started experimenting to find new ways to ride on a wake. It led to the creation of skurfing, where the riders had to ride a surfboard pulled by a boat with the help of a handle and a rope.

Skurfing soon became popular among watersports enthusiasts, and its name changed to skiboarding. It, in turn, resulted in the establishment and foundation of the World Skiboard Association and the Skurfer Skiboard World Championships. With a change in the board designs, the name changed to The World Wakeboarding Association.

The modern wake boards we see today had gotten designed and produced by Herb O’Brien’s company. The initial ones were wider and shorter than the traditional boards. In addition to that, they have fins on the bottom for more control and stability. Furthermore, they designed a binding system that enabled the riders to perform more tricks and have better control over their movements.

From the later 1990s to the early 2000s, the watersports of wakeboarding gained immense popularity with the invention of cable parks. They allowed riders to follow behind a cable system without any vessel. Today, wake boarding is a sport that can get enjoyed by people of all skill levels and ages. With various technological advancements, wake boats and boards have become exceedingly versatile and efficient. It enables riders to perform more and better skills.

The rise of wake boarding and wake boat or wake surf boat is also thanks to several people who gave their best efforts over the years. For instance, Tony Finn gets regarded as the “Father of Wakeboarding.” He invented the wake boards, an essential component necessary for the sport. In addition, Jimmy Redmon is another renowned figure related to the watersport. He contributed significantly to developing and improving the ski rope for wake boarding.

What is the Current Scenario of Wake Boarding Today?

Today, wake boarding is one of the most famous and tried-out watersports. People of all ages and expertise levels try it out. On top of that, several competitions and tournaments related to the game get organized in numerous places all across the globe.

The sport and its equipment have undergone enhancements and improvements continually since its first application. It has allowed the riders to perform several tricks on the water and even mid-air. On top of that, the participants can select and customize their wake boat and wake board according to their unique needs, requirements, and desires. It helps when the eminent need to personalize the equipment to achieve a particular goal or trick arises.

Nous sortons maintenant d’un episode « #covid » qui à complétement changer nos habitudes de vie , avec un retour à la normale depuis le debut de cette année 2022 . Comme l’on dit il va falloir vivre avec c’est un peu comme la grippe, les plus vieux vont se faire vaccinés alors que les plus jeunes auront juste un énorme rhume , c’est comme ça l’injustice de la life ….

Petit retour sur une année 2022 dans ce nouveau numéro d’unleashed france 12, qui a été plutôt bonne pour tous les sports ou activités nautiques dixit l’APP SPOTYRIDE qui à enregistré des chiffres records en fréquentations sur les lieux de pratiques comme les bases de loisirs équipés avec un téléski-nautiques qui dame encore le pion au club bateaux…

Les marques de matériels s’en sortent eux aussi plutôt pas mal avec une augmentation de + 29% au niveaux des ventes,et c’est surtout la seconde main qui prend le lead , maintenant il faut réutiliser c’est entrée dans les mœurs on évite d’acheter du neuf car on veut faire du bien à la planète …

Cette année comme l’an dernier nous n’avons malheureusement pu sortir qu’un numéro du Magazine, et toute l’équipe d’unleashed wakeboard magazine avec le soutiens des marques phares du milieu ont fait le maximum pour vous presenter le meilleurs des produits qui arrivent sur le marché du WAKE en 2023 .( Même si toutes les marques ne nous ont pas suivis sur ce numéro et c’est bien dommage)

URBAN ELEMENTS 2022, cette année le wakeboard fait le show

Urban elements 2022 :Mordu de ride, viens de tester sur l’OPEN de WAKEBOARD

Pour l’édition 2022 des Urban Elements, un cable park fait son apparition dans la rade du MUCEM à Marseille. Rider, rideuse, viens tester ton style sur les 180m de glisse des Urban Elements 2022 !

En tant qu’amateur, fait le plein de sensations le samedi et qualifie-toi pour la finale en duo ProAm du dimanche ! Tu seras peut-être l’un des 6 finalistes qui pourra rider en finale et bénéficier des conseils d’un pro. Tente ta chance et inscris-toi!

Tu auras droit à :

l’accès à la compétition du sport concerné par le pass
l’accès aux autres sports sur les créneaux réservés à l’initiation
l’accès à la soirée du samedi pour toi et 4 de tes potes
un bon d’achat à valoir chez notre partenaire Wakeboard
une entrée dans l’une des salles du réseau Climb Up d’une valeur de 17€.

NOUVEAUTÉ 2022, LE WAKEBOARD

Le bassin du Mucem accueillera cette année pour la 1ere fois une compétition de Wakeboard pour professionnels et amateurs et des initiations grand public.

Le Wakeboard est un sport nautique qui combine les techniques de ski nautique, snowboard et surf.Il permet au pratiquant d’évoluer sur sa planche à la surface d’un plan d’eau, tracté par un câble tendu entre deux pylônes et soutenu par une poulie entrainée par un moteur électrique.

Le set up prévoit l’implantation d’un bi-poulie long de 180m permettant d’effectuer des allers-retours sur le plan d’eau et de 4 modules à franchir.

Le «Bi-poulie » est une version simplifiée du « Full Size » composé de 2 pylônes

Il est muni d’un seul accrocheur ce qui signifie qu’il ne peut y avoir qu’un pratiquant à la fois.Pendant deux jours, les performances sportives des riders et rideuses professionnels et amateurs se succéderont sur ce lieu historique avec ses panoramas à 360 degrés sur le fort Saint-Jean et la Méditerranée.

La programmation prévoit un format original mêlant les pros aux amateurs.En effet, des trainings et qualications 100% amateurs se dérouleront la journée du samedi.Les six vainqueurs seront ensuite choisis par les pros pour participer aux finales du dimanche en binôme.Du show en prévision pour le plus grand plaisir des spectateurs

Tony Hawk is a skateboarding legend. He’s one of the most influential professional skateboarders in the world, has multiple X Games medals and other contest victories, a top-selling video game, successful skateboard brands, and the list goes on and on.

In this recent video posted to Austin Keen’s YouTube channel, Tony shows off his wakesurfing skills. Tony takes on Austin Keen’s Mastercraft to see if his skateboarding skills translate to the wake, and the results are not surprising. Tony Hawk flips the script and takes Austin to his 13-foot vert ramp and to see if the professional skimboarder can take on that beast of a ramp with the legend himself.
